As part of the University of Oslo's Centennial Celebration, 1200 child- and youth researchers, practicioners and policy makers from 95 different countries met for 5 days to present research, debate and exchange knowledge about modern childhood and youth. The conference had well over 700 presentations and a full program of social, artistic and not least, child- and youth focused events.

Organized by the International Society for Child Indicators. Hosted by Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea the 4th ISCI conference will explore how child indicators can be used to improve the well-being of children in a globalized world under the conference’s main theme “Child Indicators in a Globalized World: Implications for Research, Practice and Policy.”

Between September 26 and 28 1996 the directors of Childwatch International Key Institutions within the field of child research gathered for a workshop in Wild Dunes, South Carolina, under the auspices of the Institute for Families in Society at the University of South Carolina and its director, Gary Melton. The purpose of the workshop was to define further lines of collaboration among the institutions of the network, and to promote the results from child research.
In honour of International Children’s Day, November 20th, IICRD hosted a week long interactive conference on Children’s Rights in Practice. Topics addressed in plenary and workshop formats by presenters and keynote speakers included the social ecology of children’s rights. Within the framework of the Child Friendly Cities Research initiative, the workshop aimed to critically analyse the newly developed child friendly communities and cities assessment tools and to review the process to support their effective use in selected countries.
Stewart Asquith, highly respected partner, colleague and friend, passed away 13 April. We are very sorry to have lost an important resource to the international academic child rights community and to the Childwatch International Research network.

This report provides the results from a comparative international study of the models of children’s participation in family law processes related to post-separation care arrangements.
Plan International is seeking to appoint a multi-disciplinary team of consultants to undertake multi-country research to investigate the benefits of birth registration.
This research project aims to determine the benefits of birth registration both at the micro and macro levels.

In late fall 2012, the journal Children, Youth and Environments will publish a special issue on the role of physical environments in putting children at risk of violence, in reducing risks of violence, and in creating places of security, refuge and healing. In addition to research articles, the journal carries Field Reports: short articles of about 3,000 words which describe innovative initiatives to improve environments for children and youth—in this case, by reducing risks of violence or creating places of safety and healing.

The Center for Child Development (CCD) was established in September of 1991 with the concern for children, youth, families and school. One of our major emphases is on the understanding of socialization of children in Chinese societies as well as cross-cultural studies of child development in the Asian-Pacific regions. Inter-disciplinary research and training programs is a distinctive feature of the Center. We believe that the common interest in children's well-being among various disciplines will enable the integration of strengths from areas of psychology, education, sociology, social work, communications, art, music and others in finding innovative approaches for the betterment of children and of the society in the long run.
The Childwatch International thematic group on Children and the Law are distributing a questionnaire to all Key Institutions to map children's participation in family law processes related to post-separation care arrangements internationally. This is the second phase of a larger international comparative study on children and the law. We encourage all Key Institutions to contribute to the study!
Calling for papers that discuss the extent of inequalities in key indicators of children’s human capital and well-being, especially how inequalities change and evolve, and the factors that mitigate or reinforce early inequalities and explain their evolution over time.
