NGOs, UN agencies, child rights experts and others who work with children share information with the Watchlist about violations of children's rights in specific armed conflicts. The Watchlist compiles this information and publishes reports that illustrate a comprehensive picture of children's lives in specific geographic areas. The Watchlist network includes local, regional, and international partners.

The Coalition is made up of a number of NGOs, including Save the Children Alliance, Amnesty International, Defence for Children International, and Human Rights Watch. The site includes documents on child soldiers, country case studies, treaties and resolutions, and information on conferences, events and publications.

In 1994, Graça Machel's reputation as an educator and children's champion led United Nations Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali to name her the Expert in charge of producing a ground-breaking report on the impact of armed conflict on children. The report was requested in late 1993 by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and the General Assembly.  10 years on the report has been reviewed providing a forward thinking platform for the next 10 years.

The primary activity of the Archive is the acquisition, preservation, and dissemination of high quality datasets relevant to the study of child abuse and neglect. Datasets can be bought from the Archive.
