Young Lives Working Paper 83 - This paper investigates the possible impacts of the Productive Safety Net Programme (PSNP) on children’s well-being and recommends child-focused social protection that goes beyond the PSNP. It draws on data from the Young Lives survey of 569 rural households and qualitative case studies of 32 households and children living in four rural communities in 2006 and 2009.

The first Biennial Anglia Ruskin Childhood and Youth Research Institute International Conference will be organised on 13th-14th September 2012 in Cambridge, UK. The Childhood and Youth Research Institute is a multi-disciplinary initiative, bringing together the diverse expertise of academics from a variety of scholarly backgrounds, all of whom share an interest in childhood and youth. Abstracts should not exceed 250 words and should be submitted by 29 February 2012.

The papers in this special issue of Journal of International Development are drawn primarily from a panel organised by Young Lives, a longitudinal study of child poverty in four developing countries, at the 2009 Development Studies Association conference.
The conference will focus on the six major themes that shape the Institute’s current Research Plan – Economic wellbeing of families, Families and work, Social inclusion, Violence, abuse and neglect, Family transitions and family law, and Children, young people and their families.
The redesigned web site of the Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago gives access to a great number of research resources, organized by theme or publication type. The reports, policy briefs, lectures and project data base are easily accessible, and is a great resource for anyone interested in public policy and programs for the well-being of children and youth.

The Institute for Labour and Family Research, Bratislava hosted a succesful international workshop on child poverty and social exclusion 8 - 9 September 2008. 26 researcher discussed how poverty and deprivation affects children's lives from different perspectives, including children's own perceptions.
