First Webinar:  Outputs of the CP MERG Technical Working Group on Data Collection on Violence Against Children

Monday 10 December 2012 (8:30 AM – 10:30 AM EST /13:30 PM – 15:30 PM GMT)

Claudia Cappa, UNICEF Statistics and Monitoring Specialist, will present the following two outputs of the work of the CP MERG Technical Working Group on Data Collection on Violence Against Children:

Ethical dilemmas and risks in collecting data on violence against children. Findings from the work of the CP MERG technical working group on violence against children

This session will review current thinking regarding ethical issues and existing empirical support for ethical research practice and decision-making in collecting data on violence against children (VAC). The presentation will highlight specific ethical dilemmas and the existing debates and recommendations regarding these within the literature from ethical guidelines and codes to research publications. Findings from the review suggest the need to develop a strong framework for ethical research practice on VAC and the need for on-going investment in continuing discussion and the extension of knowledge through research.

Measuring violence against children: Inventory and assessment of quantitative studies. Findings from the work of the CP MERG technical working group on violence against children

This session will include findings from a recent mapping/inventory and technical assessment of quantitative studies and tools on violence against children (VAC). The presentation will highlight major areas of progress, gaps and challenges in the development of data collections tools and methodologies on VAC based on the results from the review/assessment.
