Why Young Digital
Young Digital has grown from our work with students and professionals on researching children and young people’s lives, particularly the Continuing Professional Development courses at the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships (CRFR) and the Masters in Childhood Studies at the University of Edinburgh.
Who is Young Digital For?
Young Digital is for anyone with an interest in using digital media in research with children and young people:
- Researchers in higher education, the public sector, non-governmental and commercial organisations
- Professionals using research skills and techniques in research, consultation or participation activities with children and young people
- Young people involved in research or consultation activities as participants, peer researchers or co-producers.
CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
We use the terms ‘children and young people’ interchangeably throughout Young Digital to describe those between 0 and 18 years of age.
We assume that there are not upper or lower age limits to children using digital media, except where there are legal restrictions (such as 13 years and over for using some social media) and taking into account young people’s skills and ethical issues.
Young Digital was developed during 2012. Digital media are constantly evolving, as are resources on using digital media in research. You can stay updated through Twitter @Young_Digital
